Last December, Sergey Rusyanovsky turned 5 years old. However, earlier that year — in May, when he was still 4 — the boy suffered a stroke.

At first, Sergey developed a fever. His mother gave him a fever‑reducing tablet, but it didn’t help. The child fell asleep, and after waking up, he started to limp on his right leg and couldn’t hold anything with his right hand.

The boy lives with his mother in the village of Dzyhivka, Vinnytsia Oblast. Doctors at the district hospital in the town of Yampil performed a CT scan, after which Sergey was transferred to the Vinnytsia Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital. The doctors diagnosed him with sinus thrombosis of the straight sinus and the cerebral vein of Galen, accompanied by a venous infarction in the thalamus and perifocal vasogenic edema.

Sergey lost his speech, memory and coordination; the right side of his body became paralyzed.

Ten days in the intensive care unit and more than a week in the onco‑hematology department proved effective. After discharge, the fight to restore Sergey’s body began, along with efforts to prevent a recurrent stroke — the boy has a predisposition to thrombosis. Outpatient treatment under the supervision of a hematologist and regular laboratory tests are continuing.

Now Sergey has already recovered and is taking one medication — Xarelto — at the minimum dose. However, in March he will need to undergo another MRI of the brain (this will be his fourth) with angiography and contrast enhancement, performed under sedation.

This expensive examination is necessary so that the doctor can assess the boy’s current condition. Unfortunately, the family does not have the funds to cover it.

Alena Rusyanovskaya is raising Sergey as a single mother. The income they manage to earn from their household is not enough to cover all their needs.

The money Alena had previously raised for Sergey’s MRI is now needed to cover the costs of blood tests, a hematologist consultation, and later — the trip to Vinnytsia, where the boy is scheduled to have an MRI, as well as the return journey home.

Тhe only relatives the mother and son have are Alena’s retired parents. Therefore, Sergey’s mother has turned to the «Revival of Svyatohirya» Foundation for help, asking them to cover the cost of the expensive examination for her son.
