At the beginning of January 2025, Nadezhda Sergeevna turned 83 years old. A native of the village of Sidorovo, Kramatorsk district, Donetsk region, she worked as a milkmaid all her life, earning the “veteran of labor” award.

After the deaths of her husband and son, the elderly woman lived on her own until her long-standing leg condition worsened. Having no one to help her, Nadezhda Sergeevna was forced to leave her village. For a long time, she had been a parishioner of the Svyatohirsk Lavra's  Holy Virgin Protection Skete in the village of Mayaki, therefore she found a new home in the Lavra, where she moved in June 2024.

Obliterating vascular atherosclerosis has been affecting the elderly woman for more than 15 years. In 2014, she underwent stenting of the arteries of her right leg, and skin grafting was performed on her right foot to eliminate a trophic ulcer. In 2024, due to the development of gangrene, her left leg had to be amputated. At present, a painful trophic ulcer has developed again on the right foot, making it impossible to stand on that foot. The elderly woman also has coronary heart disease, atherosclerotic cardiosclerosis and atrial fibrillation.

Nadezhda Sergeevna is in need of constant treatment and painkillers.
