Around 120 displaced people now live at the Sviatohirsk Lavra, fully supported by the monastery. They lost their homes under shelling — among them are lonely pensioners and the elderly. The monastery gives them free shelter, food and medical care.

Winter is coming. To keep the buildings where these people live warm, the Lavra's boiler houses must run without interruption throughout the cold season, and they are fired by coal.

Yet warmth in winter is needed not only by people. A stable temperature in the Lavra's churches and buildings protects their wall paintings and interiors from damp and cold, so heating the monastery also means preserving the cultural heritage of Sviatohiria.

The Vidrodzhennia Sviatohiria Foundation is opening this fundraiser now, while it is still warm, to buy coal for the Lavra's boiler houses in advance and meet the frosts prepared, so that neither the people nor the holy places are left without warmth.
