Spouses Yuri and Lydia Uzdemirov had their own house with a barn, a garage and an apiary. Both are natives of Donetsk. In 2005 they moved to the village of Bohorodychne (Kramatorsk district of the Donetsk region), where they acquired a small homestead. But the war spared nothing.

In the spring of 2022, the village came to be in the epicenter of hostilities and was subjected to merciless shelling for several months.

The couple lost everything. During the shelling, they first took refuge in their cellar. Then, like their fellow villagers, they moved to the skete in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow", where they spent a week in the basement of the church. On May 20, together with everyone else, they were evacuated to the Svyatogorsk Lavra, where they live to this day.

The monastery has been providing the couple with shelter and food. "We are very grateful to God that we are here. If it weren’t for the Lavra, we would have nowhere to go. We don't have any relatives to move in with. We had our own house and property – now there are only ruins, with only one wall of the house left standing. And there are no savings. Our pensions are small," relate the Uzdemirovs.
They buy medicines themselves, but there’s not enough money for everything. Due to the pensioners’ (both spouses are already 73 years old!) recent ordeal, their chronic ailments have been exacerbated. In addition to age-related conditions, Lydia Mikhailovna has diabetes and needs to monitor her blood sugar several times a week. She has the device required for this, but disposable test strips cost a lot. Yuri Vladimirovich now needs the services of a dental prosthetist (his teeth have “deserted” him), which are also not cheap today. The elderly couple needs your support!
