Elena Fyodorovna Pavlyuk has been living in the Svyatogorsk Lavra for more than one year. Originally from the Ternopil region, she has spent almost all her life in Donetsk. She worked as a kindergarten teacher, then in the supply department at the Ugleavtomatika enterprise. She has no idea what's currently going on with her apartment.
Now Elena Fyodorovna is 83 years old. About two years ago, the elderly woman was still getting about on her own. Now her legs are “misbehaving” and, as Elena Fyodorovna puts it, she has to "run around with a walker".
As long as she was able, the old woman would go outside to sit on her favorite bench. Her desire to move about and breathe fresh air was so strong that granny was not intimidated even by shelling.
One day in 2022, when the old woman was already approaching her bench, a shell fragment flew by very close to her. "I felt a rush of heat at my back, and then something fell next to me. At first, I didn't even understand what had happened," says Elena Fyodorovna.
Since then, she has kept this ominous piece of metal as a memento of her miraculous deliverance. She says that now she shudders to think how narrowly this fragment missed her.
Despite the burden of age and illnesses — Elena Fyodorovna has atherosclerotic and post-infarction cardiosclerosis, among others — she goes through life placing her hope in God and in the help of other people, making the lives of others brighter with her cheerfulness and genial sense of humor.
The old woman has no relatives who could help her. Elena Fyodorovna is obliged to regularly take prescribed medications.
