32-year-old Sergey Romanenko has been suffering from diseases of the digestive system for 15 years. He has experienced several serious illnesses and undergone major surgery, after which in 2015 he was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis of unspecified etiology with a transition to cirrhosis. As the results of a fibrotest showed, the liver was already affected by 58%.
Now fibrotic liver damage is 85%. Sergey is on the waiting list for a liver transplant and is undergoing inpatient treatment at the Shalimov National Surgery and Transplantology Research Center. Among Sergey's other diagnoses: splenomegaly, iron deficiency anemia of moderate severity, leukopenia, varicose veins of the esophagus, chronic colitis, etc.
Due to enlargement of the spleen which was caused by cirrhosis of the liver, last autumn Sergey experienced a significant drop in his level of platelets, which are responsible for the proper clotting of blood. Although Sergey underwent embolization of the branches of the splenic artery twice, this did not improve the situation: his platelet count remained extremely low.
Therefore, Sergey is forced to constantly take large doses of the expensive medication "Revolad" in order to prevent life-threatening bleeding, primarily from the veins of the alimentary canal, while awaiting surgery. Constant intake of Revolad additionally harms his liver, which is affected by cirrhosis, so it needs constant medical protection and support.
Thus, at present, Sergey, in addition to other medications prescribed to him, needs continuous intake of “Revolad” to increase the number of platelets and, as a result, also expensive drugs for the liver and biliary tract –– "Heptral" and "Ursofalk".
